Singareni Collieries announces plans to develop 500 MW of floating solar plants in Telangana

Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) is planning to develop floating solar power plants with a cumulative capacity of 500 MW in Telangana, with the support of the Telangana State Renewable Energy Development Corporation (TSREDC). TSREDC has taken up the feasibility study for constructing the floating solar power plants on large water bodies in the state. The proposed sites will be on the water bodies situated at Karimnagar and Warangal among other districts. The projects may also be developed over multiple phases.

SCCL has solar power plants across 11 sites in Telangana. Since March 2020, SECI has given multiple deadline extensions for 81 MW of solar project to be set at the premises of SCCL across Telangana. These include 34 MW ground-based solar power plants in Chennur and Kothagudam, 32 MW of overburden dump-based solar projects at Ramagundam and Dorli sites, and 15MW floating solar plants at its thermal power plant storage reservoir and Dorli open-cast project.
