The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has issued draft guidelines for the installation of innovative stand-alone solar pumps and has invited comments and suggestions from stakeholders. As per the draft guidelines, the ministry will call for expressions of interest from time to time inviting applications from solar pump innovators claiming better performance on account of improved efficiency, cost-effectiveness and monitoring. New technologies for which patent or intellectual property-related filings have been done will also be eligible to participate. The applications will be evaluated by a committee formed by the ministry. According to the draft guidelines, the innovators will be allowed to install up to 50 solar pumps in different parts of a state or the country for demonstration purposes. The last date for the submission of applications was April 15, 2020.
