Four solar developers get safeguard duty relief

The Central Electricity Regulatory Commission has passed an order giving compensation relief from safeguard duty to four developers – ReNew Solar Power, Phelan Energy India RJ Private Limited, Clean Sustainable Energy Private Limited and Mahoba Solar (UP) Private Limited. This was in response to the developers’ petition to the commission citing the change in law clause. The petitioners sought compensation of Rs 739.5 million to be paid on account of the additional levy of the safeguard duty and IGST on importing solar cells, along with interest. The companies had filed the petition against Solar Energy Corporation of India Limited (SECI), BSES Yamuna Power Limited (BYPL), Jaipur Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited, Ajmer Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited and Jodhpur Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited.
