The National Investment and Infrastructure Fund (NIIF) and Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), have announced a new joint venture called Intellismart Infrastructure Private Limited (IntelliSmart). This joint venture has been formed to implement, finance and operate the smart meter roll-out programme of power distribution companies. EESL has already secured contracts for IntelliSmart to install and maintain over 10 million smart meters across various state distribution companies. The joint venture will work alongside EESL to scale this up further. IntelliSmart will work collaboratively with all stakeholders to procure, deploy and provide operations and maintenance for the smart meter infrastructure.
In August 2019, EESL completed the installation of over 500,000 smart meters in the states of Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Haryana, Bihar, and Andhra Pradesh under the Smart Meter National Programme. The smart meters are type-tested by the Bureau of Indian Standards as per the IS 16444 guidelines.
And in January 2019, EESL completed the installation of 50,000 smart meters in areas served by the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC). With this, NDMC become the first municipal council in India to implement 100 per cent smart metering solutions.
