Gujarat has launched a programme aimed at installing 200,000 rooftop solar systems in 2019-20 and 800,000 by 2022. The state’s Energy and Petrochemicals Department has stated that a 40 per cent subsidy would be available for residential rooftop systems with a generation capacity of up to 3 kW, and a 20 per cent subsidy would be available for systems ranging from 3 kW to 10 kW. These incentives have been introduced under the state’s Surya Urja Rooftop Yojana-Gujarat programme. The existing residential rooftop systems can also claim these subsidies for capacity expansion. However, the subsidies will only apply to Indian-made cells and modules.
