The state of Gujarat has launched a programme aiming to achieve a target of 200,000 rooftop solar systems in the financial year 2019-20 and expand to 800,000 consumers by 2022. The state’s Energy and Petrochemicals Department states that a subsidy of 40 per cent would be available for residential rooftop systems with a generation capacity up to 3 kW. A 20 per cent subsidy would be available for the range of 3-10kW. These incentives have been introduced under the state’s Surya Urja Rooftop Yojana-Gujarat programme. The existing residential rooftop systems can also claim these subsidies for capacity expansions. However, in all cases these subsidies only apply on Indian-made cells and modules.
