Botswana cancels 100 MW solar power tender

The Botswana Power Corporation (BPC), the state-owned power utility, has cancelled a tender in which it was seeking private investor partners to build a 100 MW solar power plant. It now plans to re-issue the tender to make the project fully private owned. According to BPC, energy demand is expected to more than double to 1,359 MW by 2035 from around 600 MW currently. The initiative is in line with the need to meet this surge in power demand, modernise the country’s power grid and expand its energy basket.
