Five companies submit bids for grid-connected rooftop solar PV projects for Indian Railways

A total of five companies have submitted bids for development of the grid-connected rooftop solar PV projects at office buildings and railway stations of various zonal railways. These include DD Project Services Private Limited, Refex Energy Limited, SG Renewable Energy Private Limited, Suncraft Energy Private Limited and Modern Solar Private Limited.

Bids for the same were invited by Railway Energy Management Company Limited (REMCL) on behalf of Indian Railways in March 2019. The successful bidder is required to sign a power purchase agreement with the respective zonal railways for which it is issued the Letter of Award.

The project involves development of rooftop solar power projects with cumulative tentative capacity of 60.17 MW for various zonal railways: Metro (1 MW), Eastern Railway (1.3 MW), North Western Railway (3.4 MW), East Coast Railway (6.4 MW), Southern Railway (1.5 MW), South Eastern Railway  (6.35 MW), East Central Railway (6.86 MW), South Central Railway (24.19 MW) and North Eastern Railway (9.17 MW) on design, build, finance, operate and transfer basis through public-private partnership mode. The estimated cost of the project is Rs 4.96 billion.

A single bidder can bid for one or multiple zones, but must bid for the entire capacity offered for a particular zone.
