Reference on clean energy and mobility in the interim budget for 2019-20

The interim budget for 2019-20 tabled in the Parliament on February 1, 2019 did not have any major announcement for the renewable energy sector. Piyush Goyal, the interim finance minister, said that the installed capacity of solar power projects in the country has grown ten times in the past five years leading to creation of additional jobs. He also talked about the government’s concern on importing costly crude oil to meet the domestic energy needs and the use of biofuels to cut down the imports. The minister also laid an emphasis on the need for increased use of electric vehicles and energy storage solutions to initiate a transportation revolution which will help in increasing energy security.
