World Bank and AFD to launch a Solar Risk Mitigation Initiative

The World Bank and the French public development bank, Agence Française de Développement, have decided to jointly work on a Solar Risk Mitigation Initiative (SRMI) to improve solar energy deployment in some of the world’s poorest countries. The initiative covers policy, technical and financial issues pertaining to the deployment of solar energy in these countries. Its integrated approach will support the development of an enabling policy structure in the selected countries, develop an e-tendering platform to streamline solar auctions, target small solar projects of less than 20 MW capacity, and use adequate financial instruments to mitigate the project’s risks for both on-grid and off-grid projects.
