Old electric bus batteries to store solar energy

Volvo Buses, Göteborg Energi, Riksbyggen and the Johanneberg Science Park are working together in a project to examine an innovative way of storing electricity in apartments that derive captive power from rooftop solar panels. The team has created a unique system where old batteries from electric buses  are reused by the households for storing the energy generated from rooftop solar panels. This will give the redundant batteries a new lease of life. As part of the project, the excess electricity generated will be sold to the grid.
