The Gujarat government is planning to implement a 175 MW pilot solar project on agricultural land under the Suryashakti Kisan Yojana in the state. Under the pilot, solar projects will be set up around 137 agricultural feeders covering 12,400 agricultural connections with an aggregate load of 142,000 horsepower across 33 districts in the state. The cost of the pilot project is estimated to be Rs 9 billion. The Gujarat Electricity Regulatory Commission will support the implementation of the project. The objective of this scheme is to address the energy requirements of farmers, empower the rural economy and reduce financial stress on discoms.
