The Philippines government has proposed a bill to increase the adoption of rooftop solar projects in the country. The bill proposes removal of the 100 kW cap on distributed generation capacity for large consumers. The bill also stated that the same reference price would be applicable for electricity imported from and exported to the grid. In addition, it requires the Department of Energy, the Energy Regulatory Commission, the National Renewable Energy Board and the Department of the Interior and Local Government to standardise the permits and licences needed to install rooftop solar panels. Further, the bill seeks to mandate all government agencies to install rooftop solar systems at their offices and buildings to supply at least 5 per cent of the total energy requirements.
