Gassco and Enbridge working on reviving Norway’s first offshore wind capacity

Norwegian gas system operator Gassco and Canadian energy firm Enbridge are working on reviving the country’s first offshore wind project of 350 MW to increase the supply of power at the Nyhamna gas processing plant. The project, which will be Norway’s first offshore wind project, was fully licensed by Norwegian energy regulators in 2009 before being abandoned in 2012 owing to profitability concerns and insufficient subsidies. Now, both companies are undertaking a technical study to evaluate the possibility of connecting the offshore wind project with the gas processing plant. The study is expected to be completed by early 2019.
