Gujarat to implement 175 MW pilot solar PV power project

The Gujarat government is planning to implement a 175 MW capacity pilot solar PV project on agricultural land under the Suryashakti Kisan Yojna (SKY) in the state. The state had announced the SKY scheme to provide farmers with solar panels to generate solar power on their lands in June 2018. The objective of this scheme is to address the energy requirements of farmers, empower the rural economy and to eliminate/reduce financial stress on discoms.

Under the pilot, solar projects will be set up around 137 agriculture feeders (AG) covering 12,400 agriculture connections with an aggregate load of 142,000 horsepower across 33 districts in the state. The cost of the pilot project is estimated to be Rs 9 billion. The Gujarat Electricity Regulatory Commission (GERC) will support the implementation of the project.
