Spain announces plans to expand solar capacity addition

The Spanish government has announced plans to promote solar energy capacity addition in the country. The government is planning to stabilise electricity prices as well as facilitate private power purchase agreements (PPAs) to support the sector’s growth. In addition, the government is planning to set a calendar for future auctions and eliminate the solar tax for solar energy generators. Moreover, community solar projects for self-consumption of power will be promoted and steps will be taken to simplify bureaucratic procedures regarding installation and grid connectivity permits for renewable power generators. The government has also recently signed a 14-year PPA with X-Elio, a Spanish developer, to set up two 50 MW solar projects in the southern region of Murcia.
