Sembcorp has commissioned its entire 249.9 MW wind power project in Chandragiri district, Tamil Nadu. The capacity is part of the 1,000 MW of wind projects tendered by SECI in November 2016 under Tranche I. The company had won this project by quoting a tariff of Rs 3.46 per kWh for 250 MW capacity.
Sembcorp developed with project along with Suzlon Energy Limited, which was the engineering, procurement and construction contractor. The wind power plant consists of 119 units of Suzlon’s 2.1 MW S111-120m wind turbine generators. The electricity generated from the project will be supplied to the states of Jharkhand, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Delhi. Reportedly, the project will help meet the electricity demand of over 216,000 homes and reduce carbon emissions by over 700,000 tons per annum.
