India contributes $1 million for solar project at the UN headquarters

India has contributed an amount of $1 million for the development of a solar project at the United Nations headquarters in New York. The contribution will help reduce the headquarters’ carbon footprint and promote sustainable energy.

In June, during a World Environment Day session India had announced plans to partner with the UN Secretariat for the use renewable solar energy at the UN premises.

India has been making significant contributions to promote renewable energy worldwide. During the previous World Environment Day, the Rural Electrification Corporation had announced a $1 million contribution to the International Solar Alliance (ISA).
