The MNRE has extended the implementation timeline for 40 MW of distributed grid-connected solar PV projects in the Andaman & Nicobar and the Lakshadweep islands. The initial timeline for project implementation was 2015-16 to 2017-18, which has now been extended to 2016-17 to 2018-19. To be funded by capital subsidy from the MNRE, the projects involve the development of 40 MW of solar capacity, including the setting up of 5 MW of floating solar capacity on different islands of Lakshadweep. The projects are being implemented by central public sector undertakings (CPSUs) on a BOO basis. The estimated central financial assistance for the project is Rs 1.9 billion. The MNRE is expected to provide 40 per cent of the project cost discovered through the competitive bidding process as a grant directly to the CPSUs implementing the projects.
