Levy of provisional safeguard duty on solar imports put on hold

The Delhi High Court has disposed of a petition filed by ACME Solar against the levy of a 70 per cent provisional safeguard duty on solar cell imports from China and Malaysia. According to media sources, the standing committee of secretaries, which takes the final call in such matters, does not wish to levy the provisional duty and has asked the investigation to be done again over a longer time frame. The investigation has now been moved from the jurisdiction of the Directorate General of Safeguards and will be overseen by the commerce department through the Directorate General of Trade Remedies.
