Centre sanctions policy for developing wind-solar hybrid projects

The government has sanctioned the development of 2,500 MW interstate transmission system (ISTS)-connected wind-solar hybrid projects in India on a build-own-operate (BOO) basis. The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has appointed the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) as the nodal agency for the projects. SECI will sign power purchase agreements (PPAs) with the bidders for 25 years. The MNRE announced the policy on May 14, 2018, aiming to provide a framework for the promotion of a large grid-connected, wind-solar photovoltaic (PV) hybrid system for the optimal utilisation of transmission infrastructure and land, and to reduce the variability in renewable power generation and achieve grid stability.
