Uttar Pradesh plans to install solar plants on government buildings

The Uttar Pradesh government has planned to install solar power plants on top of all government buildings in the state. The plan aims to achieve the state’s solar target of 4,300 MW capacity fixed by MNRE as envisaged under the Uttar Pradesh Solar Policy 2017 by year 2022.

Besides, the Centre of Environment and Energy Development  has conducted  the rooftop solar potential assessment of Varanasi city in the year 2017 which reflected a potential of 58 MW for all the government buildings in the city. It has also completed a rooftop assessment of 18 government buildings like circuit house, rifle club, and 16 police stations for the same. Uttar Pradesh New and Renewable Energy Development Agency (UPNEDA) will be the nodal agency for the project.
