Centre sanctions policy for developing 2,500 MW wind-solar hybrid projects in India

The government has sanctioned the policy for developing 2,500 MW of Inter-State Transmission System (ISTS) wind-solar hybrid projects in India on build, own and operate (BOO) basis. The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has appointed Solar Energy Corporation of India Limited (SECI) as the nodal agency for the projects. SECI will sign power purchase agreement (PPA) with the bidders for 25 years. MNRE had announced the policy on May 14, 2018.

The aim of the policy is to provide a framework for promotion of large grid connected wind-solar photovoltaic (PV) hybrid system for optimal and efficient utilisation of transmission infrastructure and land, reducing the variability in renewable power generation and achieving better grid stability in the country. The policy also aims at encouraging new technologies, methods and way outs involving combined operation of wind and solar PV projects.
