MAHAGENCO awards 250 MW worth of solar capacity

The Maharashtra State Power Generation Company (MAHAGENCO) has awarded solar photovoltaic projects totalling 250 MW of capacity under the agricultural (AG) feeder program.

Azure Power won 200 MW of solar projects, and will enter a 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with MAHAGENCO at a tariff of Rs 3.07 per kWh. The remaining 50 MW of capacity was won by Shapoorji & Pallonji. The company will sign a 25-year PPA at a tariff of Rs 3.26 with MAHAGENCO. MAHAGENCO will be providing the required land free of charge to both the developers for setting up these projects as the generation company received the land from state government at no cost.

In addition, a total capacity of 100 MW could soon be awarded to Azure and Shapoorji & Pallonji after tariff reconsiderations and a meeting between the companies and MAHAGENCO. The projects are expected to be commissioned in 2019.

Maharashtra has been actively releasing new tenders as a part of its strategy to solarise the state’s agricultural feeders by adding 1,500 MW of solar project capacity with each individual project rated between 2 MW – 50 MW.
