The Indian Energy Exchange (IEX) and Japan Electric Power Exchange (JEPX) have signed an MoU to jointly explore opportunities in the electricity market.
While IEX is India’s largest power exchange with an automated platform for trading electricity, Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) and Energy Saving Certificates (ESCerts), JEPX operates physical short-term electricity markets in Japan.
The scope of the MoU includes training sessions to facilitate electricity trading through competitive market platforms by organising knowledge sharing programs. The two energy exchanges will share technology-related information as well as their experiences in product development along with mutually beneficial commercial initiatives. The initiatives are expected to assist both the organisations in understanding the electricity marketsand learning the laws and rules pertaining to electricity trading in both the countries.
As the energy markets in India and Japan have potential to grow, expand and diversify, the collaboration with JEPX is expected to benefit the overall market development in both countries.
