NTPC to finalise bids for ISTS connected solar and wind power projects by June

NTPC Limited is likely to finalise bids for 2,000 MW ISTS Connected Solar Power Projects and 2,000 MW ISTS Connected Wind Power Projects by June 2018. NTPC had invited bids for implementation of the solar and wind power projects on March 9, 2018 and March 13, 2018 respectively.

Power produced from these renewable energy projects will be blended with power generated by some of the thermal power units of NTPC. These units will be used as peaking units. Peaking units will fill the supply gap between fluctuating renewable energy and coal based power.

The Ministry of Power (MoP) issued a policy allowing thermal power generation companies the flexibility to generate or supply renewable energy under their existing power purchase agreements (PPAs) on April 5, 2018. This flexibility will provide the power generators an opportunity to optimally utilise generation from renewable energy sources and also help in reducing emissions and at same time power distribution companies (discoms) will be able to meet their renewable purchase obligations (RPOs).
