National- and state-level agencies have managed to build momentum in terms of the volume of tenders issued in the solar and wind segments since January 2018. They have also become increasingly active in the emerging technologies space. The month of March witnessed a slew of tenders in the energy storage and electric vehicle (EV) segments apart from tenders for solar photovoltaic (PV) and wind power projects.
The Indian government is currently targeting the sale of 6-7 million new hybrids and EVs by 2020 under the National Electric Mobility Mission Plan, making EVs the next big cleantech opportunity in India. NTPC Limited and Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) are at the forefront of facilitating and developing EV infrastructure. NTPC is seeking a pan-India licence to set up EV charging stations across India.
