ABB secures $90 million contract from Dubai Electricity and Water Authority

ABB has secured a contract worth over $90 million from the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) to construct the Shams 400 kV substation at the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park in Dubai. The new substation to be built by the Switzerland-based power and automation group will facilitate integration of solar power generated from the solar park into the Dubai power grid. It will be the second substation to be built by ABB for the solar park, which aims to generate 5 GW of solar power by 2030. In February 2017, ABB had energised a 400/132 kV gas-insulated switchgear substation to connect the second phase of the MBR Solar Park and integrate 200 MW of solar power into the transmission grid.
