CEA amends technical standards for rooftop solar and EV charging stations

To maintain grid stability, the Central Electricity Authority (CEA) has issued a draft amendment to technical standards and regulations for rooftop solar power systems and electric vehicle (EV) charging stations connected to or seeking grid connection. The regulations are applicable to generating stations with voltage levels below 33 kV.

The draft regulations define an applicant as a generating company, charging station, prosumer or a person seeking connectivity to the electricity system at voltage level below 33 kV, while a user is defined as a charging station, prosumer or a person who is connected to the electricity system. Moreover, a generating company with its distributed generation resource connected to the electricity system is considered as a user.

For cases where the licensee is the owner of the electricity system as well as the distributed generation sources, charging stations, etc then necessary changes will be made to the regulations as per CEA. The draft regulations require the licensee to carry out adequacy and stability studies of their networks.

The regulations will come into force on the date of their publication in the official gazette.
