Odisha passes order on net-metering for solar PV projects

In an order on net metered projects in the state, the Odisha Electricity Regulatory Commission (OERC) has removed the upper limit of 1 MW for solar projects. This order is applicable on all rooftop- or ground-mounted solar power systems connected to the distribution network. There is no cap on the installed solar capacity that is less than the connected load. In addition, the OERC has raised the cumulative solar energy capacity at the distribution transformer level to 75 per cent of the transformer capacity from the earlier 30 per cent. While the power generated from a solar PV project will be capped at 90 per cent of the consumption at the end of the settlement period, there is a provision to carry forward the excess energy generated.
