Vinit Bansal: Founder and Managing Director, EV Motors India Private Limited

Founder and Managing Director, EV Motors India Private Limited

Vinit Bansal, founder and managing director, EV Motors India Private Limited, is a seasoned professional with nearly three decades of experience in the automotive industry and the management consulting business, with significant global experience. He has also been serving as president of VB Advisors Limited for the past 11 years.

Bansal founded EV Motors in the year 2016 and is closely involved in the company’s growth and e-mobility plans. These plans include providing e-mobility solutions (both vehicles

and charging infrastructure) on a turnkey basis for the public bus segment.

Commenting on emerging industry trends, Bansal says that there is an important correlation between the electric vehicle (EV) industry and the power sector as the batteries that are used in EVs can also be used for solar energy storage.

As far as the impact of EVs on the power distribution infrastructure is concerned, Bansal  feels that the deployment of concentrated/consolidated EV charging solutions will have a negative impact on the distribution infrastructure as it may result in overloading.

He, therefore, suggests the creation of distributed charging infrastructure, which will have a minimal impact on the load. “For establishing adequate charging infrastructure, one needs to tap into the 11 kV (or higher voltage) lines and infuse significant investment in the same. However, it is crucial to ensure that there is a business model in place for the recovery of that investment,” he says.

Talking about his most memorable experience, Bansal mentions his assignment with Delphi Automotive Systems Private Limited. As country manager, he helped set up the operations of the company in India.

Bansal is passionate as an entrepreneur and believes in a hands-on management style. However, he notes that entrepreneurship and a work-life balance do not go hand-in-hand.

A mechanical engineer from the Birla Institute of Technology, he also has a master’s degree in mechanical science from Michigan Technological University and an MBA from the University of Michigan.

Despite his busy schedule, he makes sure he spends quality time with his family, which includes his wife and two children, all of whom stay in the US. Bansal loves travelling. He is also a big admirer of the Indian cricket team.
