Canadian Solar expands operations in Japan and Australia

Canadian Solar, a Chinese vertically integrated solar company, has finalised deals in Japan and Australia as a part of its expansion plans. In Japan, the company has purchased two solar plants for $9.1 million, of which a loan of about $8.2 million was provided by the Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation. The plants, named Koriyama-shi and Tsuyama-shi, are located in the prefectures of Fukushima and Okayama respectively, and will be operated by Canadian Solar’s Japan-based operations and maintenance  division. In addition, the company has acquired a 51 per cent share in Photon Energy’s five Australia-based solar projects having 1.14 GW capacity, which it will help co-develop in New South Wales.
