New York sets offshore wind and energy storage targets

New York has committed to procure at least 800 MW of offshore wind power by 2019. The move is a part of the state government’s target of securing 2.4 GW offshore wind by 2030. In addition, the state has launched an initiative to deploy 1,500 MW of energy storage solutions by 2025. To this end, the government has requested the NY Green Bank to commit at least $200 million for storage-related investments. Moreover, the government has directed the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority to invest $15 million in clean energy workforce development and infrastructure advancement to train workers for jobs, such as offshore wind construction, installation, operation, maintenance, design and associated infrastructure.
