MNRE estimates tidal potential of India

The MNRE has stated that the estimated potential of tidal energy in India stands at 8,000 MW currently. Of this, 7,000 MW potential has been assessed in the Gulf of Kambhat region and 1,200 MW in the Gulf of Kutch, Gujarat; and about 100 MW in the Ganges delta in the Sundarbans, West Bengal. However, the ministry has denied its plans of commercial tidal power generation due to its high per megawatt cost of around Rs 300 million-Rs 600 million.
