The MNRE has proposed to provide Rs 234.5 billion as financial assistance to discoms to facilitate rooftop solar deployment. The proposal entrusts discoms with the implementation of rooftop solar projects and aims to reduce the number of agencies involved in the process. The disbursement of funds will be based on the discoms’ performance. Moreover, central financial assistance would be available only to residential rooftop solar power systems up to 5 kW in size and not to commercial, industrial, government, social and institutional segments.
