Green Investment Group invests in waste-to-energy projects

The Green Investment Group (GIG) has entered into a partnership with the Covanta Holding Corporation to develop, fund and own new waste-to-energy projects in the UK and Ireland. Under this, GIG will invest about $161 million for a 50 per cent stake in Covanta’s new Dublin waste-to-energy facility. The project is expected to be operational by early 2018. According to GIG, six projects of interest have been identified in the UK under the partnership. In addition, the company has invested over $1.3 billion in waste and bioenergy facilities including small-scale anaerobic digestion plants and large-scale waste-to-energy plants. These plants are expected to divert large quantities of residual waste from landfills every year.
