2,000 MW of ISTS-connected wind power projects face roadblocks

The 2,000 MW ISTS-connected wind power projects (Tranche IV) are facing roadblocks in their implementation due to land acquisition issues.

In April 2018, seven companies had won the bids for the development of these projects. These included- Srijan Energy Systems Private Limited (250 MW), Sprng Energy Private Limited (300 MW), BLP Energy Private Limited (285 MW), Betam Wind Energy Private Limited (200 MW), Inox Wind Infrastructure Services Limited (100 MW), Adani Green Energy (MP) Limited (300 MW), Mytrah Energy (India) Private Limited (300 MW) and Renew Wind Energy (TN) Private Limited (265 MW).

When the project developers approached the Government of Gujarat for leasing of land, the state government decided not to provide land for the projects that have executed PPAs with SECI. The state government has now decided to lease land solely for projects supplying power to Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited.

Meanwhile, SECI has asked the solar power developers to achieve financial closure by January 3, 2019; non-compliance of the same may attract action as per the provisions of the PPA.
