Kolkata International Airport unveils 15 MW solar plant

A 15 MW grid-connected solar power project has been commissioned on the premises of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport in Kolkata, West Bengal, under the Airports Authority of India (AAI) green initiative. The project was tendered in 2015 and Sterling & Wilson won the EPC contract. In addition, Waaree Energies’ 330 W solar modules were utilised for the project development. The project has been built at a cost of Rs 900 million and the gestation period is expected to be six years after which the revenue would accrue to AAI. The solar power project will cater to the 10-11 MW daily power demand of the airport’s terminal building.
