A 1.5 MW small-hydro power plant has been commissioned in Biaras Dras, Kargil, Jammu & Kashmir. It is the first project under the Prime Minister’s Ladakh Renewable Energy Initiative. It was developed by the Kargil Renewable Energy Development Agency. According to the Press Information Bureau, around 1,000 families would benefit from the electricity generated by the power plant, which was entirely funded by the MNRE and cost approximately Rs 170 million.
