Solar developers demand scrapping of the clause regarding mandatory approval from PTCC for project completion

Solar power developers have filed a petition with the Ministry of Power to scrap the clause regarding mandatory approval from the Power and Telecom Coordination Committee (PTCC) for project completion. The petition states that currently deadlines for commercial operations of solar projects vary between 12 and 18 months from the signing of the PPA. However, PTCC’s website gives a tentative timeline of 32 weeks to assess the relevant information on telecom lines near transmission cables. As a result, many developers are hard pressed to achieve targets. Solar developers are of the opinion that with technology advancements, interference in telecom lines due to transmission cables has virtually disappeared. Moreover, many solar projects are set up in rural areas, where landline connections are very few.
