MNRE issues DC solar system guidelines for off-grid and grid connected applications

The MNRE has issued clarifications to the clause applicable to solar power systems and solar mini/micro-grids with direct current (DC) appliances. The ministry has also stated that the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) and/or the international standards for solar DC systems must be specified along with technical parameters. The key highlights of the order include a 60 volt limitation to ensure safety, specification of BIS and/or international standards, a voltage drop of not more than 3 per cent as well as a power loss of less than 2 per cent of the selected cables.
