Mizoram government issues its new solar power policy

The Mizoram government has unveiled its Solar Power Policy, 2017, entailing a target to develop 80 MW of solar projects to meet its renewable purchase obligation (RPO) of 10.5 per cent by 2022. This includes setting up both rooftop and ground-mounted projects. Under the policy, a rooftop solar developer is eligible to receive 70 per cent of the benchmark cost as an incentive to develop up to 500 kW capacity, while a solar park developer will receive an incentive of Rs 2 million per MW. The policy also offers incentives for decentralised solar power projects. For a microgrid of up to 10 kW, Rs 115 per watt will be provided by the state government. For a minigrid of 10-500 kW, the incentive offered is Rs 99 per watt.
