The National Energy Administration of China has released a detailed set of renewable energy targets under its Thirteenth Plan (2016-20). It has set a solar PV target of 190 GW to 200 GW by the end of the Thirteenth Plan period, including an 86.5 GW by 2020 floor installation target. This excludes distributed solar PV and poverty alleviation project targets from the cumulative total but includes 8 GW of “top-runner” projects annually, which need to deploy high efficiency modules. As of June 2017, China’s total installed solar PV capacity was 101.82 GW, which includes 84.39 GW of utility scale PV and 14.73 GW of distributed PV projects.
