Abu Dhabi-based renewable energy company Masdar has announced the commencement of the world’s first commercialscale floating wind farm, which on completion will be located off the coast of Aberdeenshire, Scotland. The wind farm consists of five wind turbines of 6 MW each. The turbines are 253 metres tall, and 78 metres below the surface of water. The rotor blades are 154 metres in diameter. The 30 MW wind farm will occupy 4 square km in a strategic area of the North Sea, which records average wind speeds of 10 metres per second.
