The Uttar Pradesh New and Renewable Energy Development Agency has issued the draft Solar Power Policy 2017. The policy promotes the participation of private players and suggests environment friendly and affordable power for all. This would help the state achieve its 8 per cent solar renewable purchase obligation target by 2022. In addition, it proposes the development of integrated solar parks for utilising wastelands in the state. The policy draft specifies the minimum project size to be 5 MW at a single location for standalone projects and solar parks to be of minimum 100 MW. All the projects will be awarded through competitive bidding. The draft is open for suggestions and the final Solar Power Policy, 2017 will be published after the approval of the state authorities.
