Vestas expands its 2 MW platform with two new turbine variants for the Indian market

Vestas has expanded its 2 MW wind turbine platform in India by introducing two new turbine variants – the V116-2.0 MW and the V120-2.0 MW. The two variants have rotor diameters of 116 metres and 120 metres respectively. They have a larger swept area, which ensures about 7 per cent more annual energy production. Based on the structural shell technology and advanced balance of loads, the new blades of 57 metres and 59 metres, respectively, optimise aerodynamics while maintaining the original nacelle and hub dimensions, and low-weight profile.

The 116 metre and 120 metre rotors provide higher power production at partial load wind speeds. The company’s 2 MW platform now includes five rotor variants to cover high, medium, low and ultra-low wind conditions. Deliveries of the new turbine variants are expected to begin in the first quarter of 2018 for the V116-2.0 MW and in the third quarter of 2018 for the V120-2.0 MW variant.
