NTPC warns distribution companies to clear the dues or face power cut

NTPC Limited intends to discontinue the power supply to the Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Company (TANGEDCO) and discoms in Karnataka owing to unpaid dues aggregating Rs 13.8 billion. A 1,500 MW power project that has been set up as a joint venture (JV) between NTPC and TANGEDCO is the power supplier for the discoms in Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Telangana. The JV has notified TANGEDCO, the Hubli Electricity Supply Company, the Gulbarga Electricity Supply Company and the Transmission Corporation of Telangana to clear their dues by April 26, 2017 or it will shut down the power supply.
