Indian space research organisation develops solar calculator application

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has developed an android application called the “Solar Calculator” to calculate solar energy. This will help select locations for solar PV projects. The application has been developed by the Space Applications Centre, ISRO in Ahmedabad. The application uses remote sensing observations from geostationary satellite sensors to capture the space-time variability of surface insolation. It provides monthly and yearly solar potential and a minimum and maximum temperature at any location. It also displays the location on the satellite image along with elevation angles and the length of the day over different time periods in a year.
