Project developers, policymakers, government officials, manufacturers and suppliers involved in the renewable energy sector believe that the major drawback for the industry is lack of awareness about renewable energy among the general public. In order to encourage consumer interaction, government agencies are developing specific apps with free download facilities. These include GARV-II, providing real-time data for 600,000 villages in India and tracking the progress on household electrification in these villages; Bijli Bazaar, which tracks the power market prices, demand and power supply position in India; and URJA, it captures consumer-centric parameters from IT systems created under the Integrated Power Development Scheme that covers 1,222 towns across India.
