IIT, Madras wins IEEE Spectrum Technology in the Service of Society Award 2017

The Indian Institute of Technology, Madras has won the IEEE Spectrum Technology in the Service of Society Award 2017, for its solar direct current (DC) inverter system. The system is used for microgrids, wherein it helps in converting 230 Volts alternating current (AC) to 48 Volts DC in order to directly power appliances and devices in households. The system helps tap rooftop solar power and has already been deployed in 4,000 off-grid homes across Jodhpur and Jaisalmer in Rajasthan and in several villages across Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Currently, it is being deployed in around 7,200 households in Assam.
